Dr. Sadanand Patne, an illustrious figure in the field of ophthalmology, is the esteemed founder of the Ankur Institute of Optometry and Ophthalmic Sciences. With an academic foundation laid through his MBBS and DOMS degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum he was honoured with the Dr. Mody Gold Medal. Dr. Patne has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advancing eye care.
Further enriching his expertise, Dr. Patne pursued his MCH from Bullion University in 2013, refining his skills and expanding his vision for the future of ophthalmology. His professional journey began with renowned institutions such as MGM and Nanavati Hospitals, Mumbai, where he worked under the guidance of eminent leaders Dr. Prabha Modi and Dr. V.H. Gandhi.
In 1986, Dr. Patne established his private practice in Gadhinglaj, laying the foundation for what would become a legacy of excellence in eye care. Ankur Hospital, initially a modest setup, has grown under his leadership to include facilities in Nippani and Belgaum, reflecting his commitment to expanding access to quality care.
In 1999, recognising the urgent need for skilled professionals in the field of optometry, Dr. Patne founded the Ankur Institute of Optometry and Ophthalmic Sciences. At a time when optometry was still emerging as a recognized discipline in India, his initiative was pioneering. The institute quickly became one of the first in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Goa to offer specialized education in optometry.
Dr. Patne's vision attracted students from diverse regions, including far-flung states like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, and even countries such as Sri Lanka, who journeyed to the remote town of Gadhinglaj to benefit from the institute's groundbreaking programs. His relentless dedication has not only shaped the future of countless students but has also significantly contributed to the evolution of eye care in the region.
